So much better than the movie. I loved the exploding rat and the miniature box trolls and the running cheese and grandfather and the wing machine. The movie doesn't have the same charm that the book has. And it has much less humorous characters.This book is amazing. I loved it.This is such an original book! Full of crazy characters and brilliantly bizzare illustrations. The strangeness and quirky characters are somewhat reminiscent of Roald Dahl. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read an interesting yet quirky adventure story or just to somebody who wants a good laugh. Filled with 'box trolls', 'cabbage heads', evil plots, strange machines and beautiful illustrations it tells the tale of Arthur, a young boy on the look out for food in his city of Rat
I loved this book so much. It's what got me into this genre of books, kind of a 'steampunk' thing from an alternative world. I loved all the characters and they were all so quirky. I really couldn't put it down, and I mean that literally. I pulled an all-nighter before going on holiday just to finish this book. I don't care it's meant to be aimed at a younger audience I would reccomend this to anyone, it was so feel good but not in a sickening way.
Fun book! Interesting characters and very silly circumstances. Highly recommend, especially if you like Boxtrolls!
4.5Highly enjoyable! A fun and unexpected story, complete with charming illustrations on pretty much every page. I think this would be a fun book to read aloud, but it's also nice to tuck yourself away in a corner and read it by yourself!
Not much at all in common with the Laika movie based on this book, but both have their charms.There's a *lot* more story in the book than there is in the movie :)
Meh. It was okay. The book really liked it's weird stuff, and focused on the world building for much longer than it should have before actually getting into the plot. It wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't what I was hoping for. It also didn't help that the POV kept on switching between paragraphs without warning or breaks, especially in the final chapters.
