Representaion As Books Be Still and Listen: Experience the Presence of God in Your Life
The various crises we experience in society and culture today, at their root, reveal a spiritual problem: a profound lack of meaning. The mystical truths revealed in scripture can surely help. Part One, “Entering the Desert,” introduces the reader to principles of awareness, deep listening, and contemplation as essential for “hearing” what Scripture has to say. Part Two details the importance of mystery and struggle in the process of healing from any past or present wounds. And Part Three explores the “undivided heart” that is possible when we come to know God in silence and stillness. With Be Still it is possible to explore the contemplative dimensions of the Bible, either on your own or in a group setting, as you perhaps never have before.Rating Epithetical Books Be Still and Listen: Experience the Presence of God in Your Life

'Be Still and Listen' by Amos Smith is a book that urges us to find a source of meaning in our lives. Eloquent, informative, and written with real wisdom, this book isn't filled with over complicated pieces of scripture and theology, but instead teaches us what we can learn about our own lives through the lessons in the Bible and contemplative prayer. This would really be a great book for a church or Bible study group, as it is sure to open up a new understanding of your own faith.I wouldn'tAmos is a family man, hiker, seasoned Centering Prayer practitioner, retreat leader, Contemplative Christian writer, amateur musician, dish washer, desert dweller, and ordained United Church of Christ (UCC) pastor. It is the best book I have read for a long time in the area of contemplative spirituality combining experience and learning seamlessly. Amos invites the reader to join him on a journey defined by an invitation - 'Become still, listen and live - really live welcoming the whole of life's spectrum and on the way you will be transformed and transform.' The act of just stopping and listening is beyond most people. Amos Smith does a great job of reminding us to do just that. Smith outlines a lot of the Christian faith from a perspective that needs to be shared. As a non-Christian myself, I found this book extremely helpful in enlightening me on the values and core meaning behind a lot of what I thought was very different (given to me by what Id call Casual Christians).Smith also tends to focus a lot on the spirituality and the peace of solitude
Amos Smith reminds us that the path of centering prayer and Christian mysticism is not a race. Its a marathon. As many Scriptures attest, our relationship with God requires patient waiting in stillness and silence, day after day, month after month, year after year. The marvel is that in time God will transform us!
As a spiritual person, I have utilized the Internet for praying and worshiping God. I have also been a verbal and outward Christian in that I would post quotes and prayers including artwork and photographs on my personal account with Facebook. However, I will also incorporate a new way of serving the King by simply remaining silent and meditative as what this book has preached to me about. The author of this read is Amos Smith and what I know about him from reading his words here is that he is a
Human nature seems to dictate that we over-complicate the profound. We have a million words to describe something that in essence is outrageously simple: God. At times I found myself crying tears of joy while reading Be Still & Listen, for the words of Amos Smith were exactly what was in my heart. And those words dont belong to Amos or myself, but to God. Amos has the rare ability to take the profound and explain it in a way that we can all understand, a true teacher at heart! He is my
