Discuss Of Books Çalıkuşu
I liked Resat's ideas, but sometimes Feride's behavior tends to be annoying: her irony, her childish behavior are a little too much. Also, the story is full of small details, which are a bit useless, looking more generally at the novel, and it makes the reading process a bit heavy. I think the conclusion, after Feride's diary is finished, is the best written part of the book. The details are reasonable, the plot develops faster and grabs the reader. 4 stars from me only for the great end of the

A friend of mine recommended the 2013 TV series based on this book (which ended up getting cancelled) awhile back. It was tough to find an English edition of the book or the show with subtitles (it's on Netflix now though!), but I was able to find a copy at my uni library! I so wish I was able to read it in the original Turkish (some things are lost in translation - especially when it comes to such a beautiful language), because it's a really lovely story.

A beautiful story about the life of a young Turkish woman, who after leaving home becomes a teacher in a far away village in Turkey. Classical story, written in 1922, was fascinating till the last page. I've read it in Russian translation, not sure if it was ever translated to English.

Emglish translation is called: The Autobiography of a Turkish Girl (beware: the ending is missing & only summarized on 2 pages). You can find a PDF consisting of photocopies of this version onlineThe German translation (which is complete) is called: Zaunkönig - Der Roman eines türkischen Mädchens and they spell the author's name as Reschat Nuri. The book is out of print but I managed to buy an edition from 1942 from booklooker.de

Velika ljubav za Grmušu! I loved this book so much. Didn't think it was going to blow me away the way it did. Such a fantastic story and such a relatable main character. The writing is simply beautiful and all the characters are portrayed amazingly - you get a taste of each of their lives. Longer review to come definitely.

Never thought I would enjoy a romantic story, a novel about love. But oh my stars, did I love this book. This novel made me cry, smile and experience all the feelings you're supposed to feel reading such a book. The main heroine was really, really nice and I liked her a lot. She felt real (except for her beauty, maybe) and alive. She had her flaws, but she was good and kind, such a lovable character.Doctor, oh doctor! Even though we got to see him pretty much only in last two parts of the book

Heartbreaking. Emotional. I cried when I was reading parts of the book, I felt everything Feride felt. And I couldn't let go. I wish it was not over. Such a heartbreaking story, beautifully written. The book also provides an insight of Turkish society in Anatolia in the early 20th century. The way women were treated, no equality, no independence. I was amazed how people's attitude towards somebody, their gossiping and beliefs can ruin somebody's life. It also provided an interesting point of the
